Pre-School Ready

Student Milestones: At this age, student milestones are developed in the home by parents and caregivers. Motor, language, social-emotional and cognitive development milestones for children ages birth to five years can be found at www.parentsknow.state.mn.us

District Indicators: The District does not collect data on this milestone because parents and caregivers foster the pre-school ready milestones before a child enters formal schooling experiences.

Ready For Kindergarten

Student Milestones: The spring before starting kindergarten, students should complete early childhood screening beginning at age 3, be registered for kindergarten, and undergo an Early Kindergarten Assessment (EKA). Students must score at the “Ready 4-K level” on the EKA.

District Indicators: The district will observe the proportion of students scoring at or above “Ready-4-Participation” in early childhood screening; the proportion of fall kindergarten classes with an assessment score from the previous spring; and the proportion of kindergarten students scoring at or above “Ready-4-K” on the fall Early Kindergarten Assessment.

Reading By Third Grade

Student Milestones: Students should enter grade three reading at or above the college and career readiness level according to the student’s scores on the spring grade two Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test. Students should also score at the proficient level or above on the spring Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test in reading. Report card standard scores in grade three should be “3” or higher in all areas of reading. Students should retain a 95% attendance level or higher.

District Indicators: The district will monitor the number of students scoring at or above college and career readiness level on the MAP reading test in grade 3; scoring at proficient level or above on MCA reading test in grade 3; and scoring at grade level on grade 3 spring standards-based report card in reading.

Middle School Ready

Student Milestones: Students should score at grade level or above on the spring Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test in reading and math. They should earn report card standard scores in grade three of “3” or higher in all areas of reading and math. Students should retain a 95% attendance level or higher.

District Indicators: The district will monitor those students scoring at or above college and career readiness level on the MAP reading and math test in grade 3; scoring at proficient level or above on fifth grade MCA reading and math; and scoring at grade level on fifth grade spring standards-based report card in reading and math.

High School Ready

Student Milestones: Students should score at or above EXPLORE College Readiness Benchmarks on the Composite Scale Score in eighth grade; score at the college and career readiness level on the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) reading and writing test in grades six and seven; and score at the proficient level or above on spring Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test in reading, math and science. They must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average at or above 2.0 by spring of eighth grade, and have a plan for high school courses that will meet their career ambitions.

District Indicators: The district will observe the proportion of students scoring at or above EXPLORE College Readiness Benchmarks in at least three out of four areas; the proportion of students scoring at proficient level or above on eighth grade MCA tests in reading, math and science; the proportion of students earning a cumulative grade point average at criterion level to predict high school success; proportion requiring no support classes in high school based on teacher recommendations; and the proportion of eighth grade students self-reporting that they have the skills necessary to succeed in high school.

College & Career Ready

Student Milestones: Students will stay on track each year by passing all required courses and earning sufficient credits to pass to the next grade. Students should score at or above PLAN College Readiness Benchmarks on the Composite Scale Score in tenth grade. They must also complete at least one of the post-secondary placement tests (ACT, ACCUPLACER or ASVAB). Students must graduate in four years with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher and a post-secondary plan of action.

District Indicators: The district will monitor the proportion of students on-track (passing all required courses/credits) by spring tenth grade; the proportion of students scoring at or above PLAN College Readiness Benchmarks on the Composite Scale Score; the proportion completing a post-secondary placement test (ACT, ACCUPLACER or ASVAB); the proportion of students with a completed Post-Secondary Plan of action by twelfth grade; how many students graduate in four years and their grade point averages.

Middle School Ready

Student Milestones: Students should score at grade level or above on the spring Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test in reading and math. They should earn report card standard scores in grade three of “3” or higher in all areas of reading and math. Students should retain a 95% attendance level or higher.
