Student Milestones: The spring before starting kindergarten, students should complete early childhood screening beginning at age 3, be registered for kindergarten, and undergo an Early Kindergarten Assessment (EKA). Students must score at the “Ready 4-K level” on the EKA.
District Indicators: The district will observe the proportion of students scoring at or above “Ready-4-Participation” in early childhood screening; the proportion of fall kindergarten classes with an assessment score from the previous spring; and the proportion of kindergarten students scoring at or above “Ready-4-K” on the fall Early Kindergarten Assessment.
Early Childhood Screening helps identify children who may benefit from early childhood services before they enter school. Screening is a free check of your child's vision, hearing, height, weight, and development, as well as a review of her or his immunization records. Children will also be assessed in three important developmental areas: motor skills, concepts, and communication skills. The state of Minnesota requires that all children be screened before they enter kindergarten.
The Pond Early Childhood Family Center conducts screenings for children in Bloomington and Richfield by licensed teachers.
